GE BA, China around 1950 - Lot 74
GE BA, China around 1950 Composition with rice glue and fabric. 49,5 x 46,5 cm N.B.: Ge Ba are collages made by Chinese peasants and workers from recycled fabric, they were intended to be cut to make linings for jackets that were too worn or soles for shoes. A true ephemeral art, the Ge Ba are surprisingly reminiscent of the avant-garde artists in Europe during the same period. (Paul Klee, Nicolas de Staël, and Serge Poliakoff) Similar collages have been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Miro Foundation in Barcelona. * Sold by designation
