HERMÈS - Lot 66
HERMÈS Square in printed silk twill "Fleurs de Giverny" designed by Christine Henry. 90 x 90 cm N.B.: In 1883, Claude Monet, one of the greatest Impressionist painters, settled in Giverny, Normandy. The gardens he created there are works of art in themselves. In his 1907 "Writings on Art", Marcel Proust evoked "the tender water lilies that the master depicted in his sublime canvases, of which this garden... is like a first, living sketch". The composition of Fleurs de Giverny is inspired as much by the flora as by Monet's way of thinking about shapes, harmonies, shadows and reflections. Around a floral geometry run the earthenware that adorned the kitchen of the painter's home, as well as kimono motifs inspired by his collection of prints. A tribute to the artist's gardens and his talent. *Sold by appointment (available for viewing after the sale).
