GE BA, China circa 1950 - Lot 72
GE BA, China circa 1950 Composition with rice glue and fabric. 50 x 46.5 cm N.B.: Ge Ba are collages made by Chinese peasants and workers from recycled fabric, intended to be cut up to make worn-out jacket linings or shoe soles. A veritable ephemeral art brut, the Ge Ba are strikingly reminiscent of avant-garde artists in Europe during the same period. (Paul Klee, Nicolas de Staël, and Serge Poliakoff) Similar collages have been exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Miro Foundation in Barcelona. * Sold by appointment
