Luba style statue - Lot 374
Luba style statue
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood, vegetable fibers
Height : 23,5 cm
Anthropomorphic statuette with a torso pierced by a stake harnessed to the body by a solid plant fiber link. The hands are placed on a bulbous belly. The face develops almond-shaped open eyes under a wide and rounded forehead, whose pupil is delicately highlighted by the eyelids and the arched eyebrows. The refined nose, the mouth with half-open lips and the curvilinear pavilion of the ears punctuate the face. The design of the back hairstyle, whose four lobes open like the corollas of a flower, is typically Luba.
