Tchokwé style regalia - Lot 338
Tchokwé style regalia Sceptre-tabatiere Angola Wood Height : 69 cm A ceremonial object of the chief carried by a young boy during visits and ceremonies. Upper part of a cane with a small tobacco container composed of three parts: the upper part, decorative, represents a male figure seated cross-legged, with a complex headdress (cipenya-mutwe) characteristic of the Tchokwe culture and indicating a man of prestige. It surmounts a middle part which is in fact a small tobacco container in the form of a closed cup (ngoma). It is decorated with a three-level frieze: incised rhombus, engraved parallel line, and intersecting diagonals. The container rests on an element with an edged cut, incised with lozenges. The lower part, absent here, is generally composed of a metal blade emanating from a wooden spindle (present). CHOKWE STYLE - REGALIA 69 CM
