Buyu style statuette - Lot 239
Buyu style statuette
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood
H : 26 cm
This male anthropomorphic statuette shows the finesse and importance of the details. The forms are smooth and geometric. The faces are full and rounded. The rounded forehead extends into the bridge of the straight nose with clearly detached nostrils. The slit globular eyes, with half-closed eyelids, evoke those of the insect. The mouth with thick lips, sculpted in a rectangle, reveals rows of teeth. The beard is made of small diamonds. The body, whose umbilicus and sex are prominent, is covered with scarifications. The neck is decorated with a cowrie shell necklace.
