Kwele style mask
Gabon
Wood, pigments
H : 36 cm
On the slightly concave white face, a pyramidal nose highlighted in black, a small prognathic mouth, and swollen coffee bean eyes stand out in high relief. The visored forehead and cheeks are marked with scarification marks. Pipibudze masks are hung at the back of the hut of the clan chief, who is the depositary of the relics or bones hidden far from the eyes of the laity and women.
