Idoma style ekwotame statue - Lot 50

Idoma style ekwotame statue Nigeria Wood, pigments 60.5 x 16.5 cm Presenting a female figure sitting on a stool. The upright posture of the figure is rendered by the balance of the long arms with hands resting on the knees, framing the bulbous umbilical area. The whitened face, contrasting with the black patina covering the body, offers almond-shaped eyes sculpted in high relief under a thick arch. The mouth is half-open on rows of white teeth. The forehead, the temples, and the vertical band running across the abdomen, present scarifications in relief. The head is surmounted by five high buns extending from the top of the head to the nape of the neck. IDOMA STYLE - EKWOTAME STATUE
