Kongo style maternity hospital - Lot 329
Kongo style maternity hospital
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood, glass, pigments
Height : 41 cm
This maternity represents a kneeling woman. She is carrying a child on one of her knees and is giving it a drink. A second character representing a spirit or an ancestor is clutching the head of a snake on her left shoulder. The mother's face is realistic, haughty, with a straight look and wide open eyes set with
"mirrors of clairvoyance". A necklace and bracelets adorn her neck and arms.
