Baule style maternity hospital - Lot 317
Baule style maternity hospital
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 48 cm
This maternity sitting on a stool displays a hieratic pose, the neck straight, the head with a serene face. The features of the face are delicate: superciliary arches meeting at the birth of the right nose with hemmed nostrils, half-closed eyes, small mouth stretched forward, ears with a drawn pavilion. The body and face are punctuated by scarifications in relief. Richness of the jewels: bracelets on the right wrist and below the knee. Her child is clutched behind her back.
