Ligbi style mask - Lot 315
Ligbi style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height: 42 cm
The face of this mask takes on the characteristics of Senoufo masks: wings representing the fruits of the kapok tree, small powerful legs that resemble chicken legs (sacrificial animal). Under the high rounded forehead, heavy eyelids accentuate the impression of interiority and serenity. The corners of the mouth are marked with scarification in relief, as are the cheeks and forehead. The top of the skull is surmounted by a crest-like headdress on which an anthropomorphic face is carved.
