Teke style statuette - Lot 314
Teke style statuette
Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood
Height : 55 cm
The face of this male statuette is entirely streaked with parallel scarifications. He is firmly planted on semi-flexed legs, his arms glued to his torso. The abdomen is pierced by a large cavity used to place the ritual load. The features are tight: eyes hollowed out in large sockets, prognathic mouth with lowered corners ending in a beard. The head is dominated by an imposing sagittal crescent hairstyle whose front tip is projected over the face, stretching to the forehead.
