Dan Mahou style mask - Lot 232
Dan Mahou style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 51 cm
This double Dan Maou mask presents two faces with resolutely different styles. The face on the right is anthropozoomorphic and borrows the features of the Dan deangle mask. The gaze is highlighted by a "white wolf" around the slit eyes and by the rounded forehead underlined by fine arches. The mouth is prolonged by a bifid bird's beak of a beautiful curvature. The hairstyle formed by tight braids is a typical Bassa style characteristic.
The anthropomorphic face presents two planes stretched forward (bulging forehead and prognathic mouth), surmounted by a female figure.
