Gouro style mask - Lot 222
Gouro style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 34 cm
Mask with fine, naturalistic features, half-closed eyes and mouth with raised corners. The rest of the face is punctuated by scarifications in relief. The scarifications in the cheeks reinforce the laughing mood of this mask. The very sophisticated tripartite braided headdress is surmounted by an acrobatic female figure doing the bridge.
