Vuvi mask - Lot 189
Vuvi mask
Gabon
Wood, pigments
Height : 32,5 cm
Mask with a flat face, whitened in its lower part and red on the forehead. In the ovoid field of the face, the two arches of the eyebrows, whose wide curve begins at the root of the small nose to join the outer edges of the mask, draw a cordial surface in which the narrow slits of the eyes and a triangular half-open mouth are inscribed. A narrow band of contour thickens above the forehead to suggest a hairstyle. The thin line in relief that stretches from the mouth to the chin represents a beard.
