Equestrian statuette of Baule style - Lot 110
Equestrian statuette of Baule style
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 39 cm
This Baule equestrian statue represents a male figure in a hieratic position, his torso straight on his mount. The tension of the peaceful face, slightly projected forward. The position of the hands turned towards the belly translates an attitude of introspection. The scarifications of the face as well as the fineness of the beard and the headdress, translate the importance of beauty in Baule art.
