Baule style mask - Lot 96
Baule style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood
Height : 40 cm
The fineness of the features is characteristic of the canons of beauty in Baule country. The multiple scarifications on the forehead, on the cheeks and on the corners of the mouth, the sophistication of the hairstyle in elaborate shells, or the hemmed design of the ears, testify to this. The peaceful expression of the figure is reflected in the straight nose in the shape of an inverted T, the pierced eyes with a straight look, and the slightly half-open mouth.
