Wé style mask - Lot 92
Wé style mask
Ivory Coast
Wood, pigments
Height : 32 cm
The slit eyes above the protruding tubular eyes allowed the wearer to see ahead. The triangular face with its spiked nose, horns and bird's beak mouth symbolize the supernatural forces attributed to the mask. The exuberance of the features is in order. The sculptural dynamics, structured in volumes projected in space is reinforced by the duality black / white.
