Mask of Bété style - Lot 91
Mask of Bété style Ivory Coast Wood, upholstery nails H : 30 cm A real strength emerges from this mask, both in its forms and in its aesthetic research. The power of the facial attributes is expressed by a bulging forehead, separated by a typical median line, slit eyes over almost the entire face and circled, a nose with exacerbated nostrils, an open mouth revealing sharp teeth. Brass nails can be found all over the mask, emphasizing the structure of the mask, and are widely used by the Bete people on masks as well as on statuary and everyday objects.
