Democratic Republic of Congo
Wood, pigments, fibers, nails
Double kifwebe mask with white stripes whose name means "mask" in the Songye language. Animal horns surmount the face. The eyes are pierced in a palpebral slit, the prominent square mouth represents the beak of a bird or the fire of a sorcerer. The two foreheads are underlined by thick ribs extending into short triangular noses.
A figure kneels above the two faces, hands tied, seeming to beg.
