Grebo style mask
Ivory Coast / Liberia
Wood, pigmenrs, feathers
H : 55 cm (without the beard)
Grebo mask with cubist forms whose construction
is articulated around four tubular eyes that seem to emerge from the flat surface of the face. The sharp edge of the nose divides the composition vertically into two parts. The mouth is protruding. The beard is decorated with a bell. The upper part is engraved with a polychrome band from which a feathered headdress escapes. The dancer was looking through the holes drilled in the center of the face.
