Wood and pigment statue of a kneeling woman, carrying a chil - Lot 95
Wood and pigment statue of a kneeling woman, carrying a child on her back, and holding a chicken-shaped bowl in her hands. The head has large globular eyes with hemmed eyelids and pierced pupils. The lips are thick. The forehead and cheeks are marked with the characteristic Yoruba triple foliate pattern called pele. The wrists are adorned with multi-row bracelets, and one pierced ear has retained its loop. The high hairstyle would evoke her status as a young bride.
