A mother, in wood and pigments, kneeling on a circular base, - Lot 84
A mother, in wood and pigments, kneeling on a circular base, carrying a cup in her hands. To her right and behind her, two children are represented in detail. The mother's head, which is large and rests on a small, straight neck, has large almond-shaped eyes with hemmed lids, whose pierced pupils enliven the facial expression. The lips are thick. The forehead and cheeks are marked with the characteristic Yoruba triple foliate pattern called pele. The hairstyle, made up of three shells, is spread backwards, responding to the tension of the breasts projected forward, thus balancing the composition. Beautiful polychromy on the whole object. Yoruba style - Nigeria Height : 59,5 cm W: 39 cm Bibliography: LAWAL Babatunde, Visions of Yoruba Africa, Edition 5 continents, Milan, 2012, p.132.
